Abstract

Fatmawati (2020). Students’ perceptions about using Google translate application in free writing at first semester student at English Department University of Bandar Lampung. This study aims to investigate the students' perceptions about using Google Translate in Free Writing. This research was conducted because to produce writing is not easy to do. Many aspects must be mastered to get good result in writing such as vocabulary, grammar or topics that are appropriate. In this case students are increasingly difficult to write because of the limited of their vocabulary that should be very difficult for students to produce writing in free writing. In this case students need applications that can help them in free writing. The application is Google Translate. This application is widely used by them to assist them in writing and help them translate the texts. Therefore, researcher conducted research on students' perceptions about using Google Translate in free writing. To answer the research questions that have been formulated, this study conducted a qualitative research method. There are two instruments used in this study, namely questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this study were 49 first semester students at University of Bandar Lampung. Based on data analysis, it shows that most students have positive perceptions through the use of the Google Translate Application in free writing especially in helping them to translate English text and enrich vocabulary.
