Abstract

The objective of the research is to describe the teacher pedagogical competence in teaching English for young learners. Besides, this research proposed to analyse what is the pedagogical competences that the English teacher mostly needed in their teaching English to young learners through description the three component of the pedagogical competence, such as cognitive component, behavioural component, and attitudinal component. The research paper highlighted the data through descriptive qualitative research. This research was qualitative research. The research was done at six different schools in Bandar Lampung. Data gathering was done by doing observation, questionnaire and interview to three students. The data was analyzed by combining the result from the observation, questionnaire and interview. There were two findings will be obtained by analyzed descriptively. The first is almost the English young learner teachers or EYL from six teachers I have observed in primary school in Bandar Lampung have good pedagogical competences. Moreover, some of the teachers required their self to evaluate and enhancement their teaching performance to be a better in the future. Therefore, another result, in the current situation, pedagogical competence structured into three main component they are cognitive component, behavioral component, and attitudinal component. All the factors integrated and cannot be separated each other’s. Those are important component in pedagogical competence that affecting teachers in teaching second language for primary school. The three components interact one to another in complex ways in developing the students’ achievement in learning language and show the quality of the teachers.
