Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out whether there is significant influence of using word search puzzle game towards students’ simple past tense mastery at the second grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung in 2016/2017 academic year. In this research, methodology of research was true experimental design with the treatment held in 3 times of meeting, 2 x 40 minutes for each. This design used pretest to find out students’ initial ability before the treatment. The population of this research was students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung at the second grade. The samples taken were two classes, XI IPA and XI IPS which consisted of 60 students. In collecting the data, the writer used the instrument in form of multiple choice questions. The instrument was used for the pre-test and post-test. After giving the post-test, the writer then analyzed the data. From the data analysis, it is found that the result of independent samples t-test that t-count is higher than t-table (4.907 > 2.002) and the sig. 2-tailed value is lower than sig. level (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, from this research, it is known that word search puzzle game could improve the students’ simple past tense mastery. In short, there is a significant influence of the use of word search puzzle game towards students’ simple past tense mastery.
